Why consider Mabianyizu
Mabianyizu sits within Leshan's administrative area in Sichuan, a region known for the Leshan Giant Buddha, Mount Emei tourism and a broad agricultural base. For a foreign founder, the appeal is rarely a large industrial cluster. It is more often proximity to a specific local partner, a tourism or food-related project, a service business serving the county, or a low-cost base for a small team while keeping a legal presence in Sichuan.
Be realistic about what a county-level location offers. You will likely deal with Leshan-level registration and tax authorities rather than a dense ecosystem of foreign-invested enterprises. Professional services — accountants, translators, corporate lawyers — are easier to find in Leshan city or Chengdu than in the county itself. Transport links to Leshan and onward to Chengdu matter for banking, meetings and visa administration.
If your business depends on frequent international clients, export logistics or a deep supplier network, compare Mabianyizu with Leshan's urban districts or Chengdu before committing. If your activity is local, tourism-linked or partner-driven, a county address can be workable. The right answer depends on your business scope, not on the address alone.

Entity options: WFOE, JV or representative office
Foreign founders generally choose among three structures. A wholly foreign-owned enterprise (WFOE) is a limited liability company owned entirely by foreign investors. It is the most flexible option for businesses that intend to earn revenue, hire staff and contract locally, provided the activity fits the negative list for foreign investment and the business scope is drafted carefully.
A joint venture (JV) with a Chinese partner can make sense where local relationships, land, licences or distribution are essential. The trade-off is governance: capital contributions, profit distribution, decision rights and exit mechanics must be documented in the JV contract and articles. Do not treat a JV as a shortcut around licensing; the entity still needs approvals for regulated activities.
A representative office (RO) is a non-profit liaison presence. It cannot sign sales contracts or earn revenue directly, and it suits market research or coordination. For most founders planning real operations, a WFOE is the default, with a JV considered when a partner genuinely adds access. Confirm your specific activity against current foreign investment rules before deciding.

The five-step registration process
Step one is preparation: define the business scope, registered capital, shareholders, legal representative and a compliant registered address. Foreign documents usually need notarisation and consular legalisation or apostille, plus Chinese translation. Step two is name pre-approval and, where required, foreign investment information reporting through the relevant commerce system. Step three is submission to the market supervision authority (SAMR) at the appropriate level, typically Leshan for a Mabianyizu address, together with the articles, investor documents and address proof.
Step four is post-licence formalities: carving of company seals, opening a bank account, foreign exchange registration, tax registration and invoicing setup, and social insurance registration if you hire. Step five is operational readiness — accounting systems, contracts, work permits for foreign staff and any sector-specific licences.
Each step can trigger questions that return you to the previous one, so sequence matters. A business scope that mentions regulated activities may require a pre-approval or a licence after registration. Address documentation must match what the authority expects. Plan for iteration rather than a single clean pass.

Documents to prepare
Expect a core set of documents for a WFOE or JV. For corporate investors: certificate of incorporation, articles, board resolution, ultimate beneficial owner information and passport copies of authorised signatories. For individual investors: passport copies and, where applicable, proof of address. These foreign documents typically require notarisation and legalisation or apostille, with Chinese translations prepared by a qualified translator.
You will also need a company name in Chinese, a drafted business scope, the articles of association, a registered address lease or ownership certificate with the landlord's documentation, and appointment documents for the legal representative, supervisor and executive director or board. A JV adds the joint venture contract and Chinese partner documents.
Keep originals and scans consistent: mismatched names, dates or signatures are a common cause of rejection. If your investor structure includes trusts, funds or multiple layers, prepare a clear ownership chart. The reviewing authority may ask for clarification, so build in time to respond rather than assuming a single submission will be accepted.

Registered address and business scope
The registered address must be a genuine, documented location. In a county like Mabianyizu, options include leased office space, a serviced address where local rules permit it, or premises tied to a real operation. Avoid assuming any address can host any activity: zoning, fire safety and sector rules may restrict what you can do there. Ask the landlord for ownership proof and confirm the address will be accepted for registration before signing a long lease.
Business scope is the other critical drafting task. Write it in the standard Chinese categories used by the registration system, covering what you will actually do now and reasonably soon. Overly broad scopes invite questions; overly narrow scopes can block invoicing for legitimate revenue. Some activities require a licence before or after registration, and some are restricted or prohibited for foreign investment.
If your plans include e-commerce, consulting, food, tourism services or trading, the scope wording differs. Have a local adviser review the draft against current practice, and keep the scope aligned with your contracts, invoices and tax filings once operating.

Banking, tax and visas after registration
After the licence is issued, open a corporate bank account, usually at a bank branch with foreign exchange capability. Expect know-your-customer checks on shareholders, beneficial owners and the business purpose. Bring the licence, seals, articles, address documents and identification. Foreign currency capital contributions require foreign exchange registration and correct remittance annotations; work with your bank early on the exact wording.
On tax, register with the tax authority, determine taxpayer status, set up invoicing and appoint a bookkeeper. China's tax system includes corporate income tax, value-added tax and withholding obligations, and reporting calendars are strict. Many small foreign-invested companies use a local accounting firm; in this region that often means engaging a Leshan or Chengdu provider.
For foreign staff, a work permit and residence permit are separate from company registration. The process involves the employer, local science and technology or foreign expert administration, and exit-entry authorities. Start early, keep degree and experience documents authenticated, and do not assume a visa can be converted without leaving or adjusting status. Rules change, so verify current requirements.

Common mistakes to avoid
First, choosing an entity before defining the business. A representative office cannot invoice, and a WFOE with the wrong scope cannot bill for planned services. Second, treating the registered address as a formality: undocumented or unsuitable addresses cause rejections and later compliance problems.
Third, underestimating document formalities. Missing apostille or legalisation, inconsistent translations and unsigned pages delay filings. Fourth, ignoring foreign investment rules for restricted sectors, which can invalidate a structure. Fifth, assuming a bank account opens automatically; banks assess substance, and a shell-like company may face extra scrutiny.
Sixth, neglecting post-registration compliance — tax filings, annual reporting, capital contribution deadlines and social insurance. Seventh, using template articles that do not reflect the actual governance or exit arrangements. Finally, expecting county-level processes to match Chengdu's pace or service depth. Plan for travel to Leshan, local translation support and a patient approach to authority queries, and verify every requirement with a qualified local professional before committing funds.
